Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament by which a infant, child or adult is welcomed into the Body of Christ. Because baptism is a public sacrament to be conducted within the worship service, people are normally baptized where they are or intend to become members and the congregation is asked to support this person as they grow in faith.  While one is baptized as a Christian (not an Episcopalian or any other denomination) it makes sense to choose a church where one will be exercising his or her membership for the present time.  If a child is baptized, but is never brought to church, it would be like registering the child for school but then not bringing them to school.

If you are not presently a member but are interested in baptism at St. John’s, please come worship with us a few times and see if this is where you would like to live out your membership in the Body of Christ. Any of our clergy is always happy to answer your questions and work with you.

The sacrament of baptism is normally administered on specific Sundays: The Baptism of our Lord (early January), second Sunday of Easter (early spring), Pentecost (early summer), Nativity of John the Baptist (Sunday closest to June 24th), and All Saints Sunday (early November).  In special circumstances another time may be scheduled.
